THE CHRISTMAS STORY
Dedicated to Daddy. His Bible is still
beside his chair, its leather cover worn thin
and the pages, yellowed and dog-eared.
Old church bulletins, alongside Sunday School lessons
of the past, are still tucked inside.
Although his hands are too weak and tremulant
to hold it, this Book still holds him.
I love you, Daddy.

"And Joseph also went up from Galilee,
out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea,
unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem. . ."
St. Luke 2:4
"And she brought forth her firstborn son,
and wrapped him in swaddling clothes,
and laid him in a manger; because
there was no room for them in the inn. . . .
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph,
and the babe lying in a manger."
St. Luke 2:7, 16
"And when they were come into the house,
they saw the young child with Mary his mother,
and fell down, and worshipped him:
and when they opened their treasures,
they presented unto him gifts;
gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."
St. Matthew 2:11
